Historical & Municipal Fire Trends Research, Nairobi

Spatial Collective designed and is delivering a research project together with the Kenya Red Cross Society. The purpose of the research is to document:

  • historical fire incidents, including location, causes and impact in Mukuru informal settlement in Nairobi.
  • existing municipal response mechanisms, as well as current opportunities and challenges related to fire response Nairobi.
  • the linkages between the municipal and community-based fire response mechanisms and make recommendations to the Kenya Red Cross Society on improvements in the current data collection and fire response system.

This project involves primary and secondary data collection, as well as an assessment of the systems within the Kenya Red Cross Society and the Nairobi Fire Brigade.
